If we stop, I suggest wax in everyone's ears and we double the watch.

The captain thinks you should weigh anchor past the reefs and double watch, as suggested. Plus, everyone's ears are tallowed for that +4 on the save. in case the mermaids start singing.

If no one posts otherwise soon, I will assume this has happened.

The night closes in and the ship weighs anchor. There is no further sign of the mermaids but they could easily still be out there in the darkness.

Jaali, on watch at about 10 o' clock, hears something out in the darkness breach the water. It wasn't a mermaid. It was much bigger than that. He also notices that there is fog or steam rising from the surface of the water out in the edge of the lantern light.

There is opportunity to raise numerous extra people. Jaali and Maju were awake, the monk and paladin can be awake in a round, and the bard and captain are also woken easily.

"Maju, go awake the others. I'll watch this strange thing. I think we should remain silent for now"

Jaali will then hide and watch the thing.

The "thing" remains away from the ship for the time being, out of sight. Jaali hears it breach and then go under several times.

In the meantime, the rest of the crew (PCs plus numerous NPCs) are all awake.

The captain thinks it noting to be worried about.

Your thoughts?

Could this be a giant lizard that lives in the sea? Let us all keep watch for a while.

Rostam will stay on deck for at least the next hour.
If there is time before anything else happens, he will also don his armor.

I can stay and watch. I only need to meditate to restore my body. The rest of you, sleep. You may need your energy in the morn.

"I'll stay with you Yuan-Cheng, at least for an hour. I don't think it is safe for you to be alone outside"

I guess we wait for an hour or so, being careful of any noise, light, or anything unusual.

The paladin is abou halfway through donning his armour when the breaching noise gets louder and the party are confronted with a large, serpentine head peering up at them, now about 20 yards away. The creature is staring at you curiously.

No one is exactly sure what it is, but it reminds Jaali of carvings of dragons that he once saw while he was exploriong a certain underwater tomb, on a previous adventure.

He looks like this, except you can only see his head and neck so far...

Greetings, lord dragon. We have run off course and trespassed into your waters. Please forgive us. How may we best serve you?
