The World of Everhome

Post by Sir Daggerford »

(This thread is going to contain general info and background/history of the game world. It's going to be locked from the get-go, as only I will be posting in it for now. If you have any questions about the game world, you can ask them in the OOC discussion, or in the Character Thread if they relate to creating a character. So without further ado, here we go)

The World of Everhome:

History (Summary):
The World of Everhome was once a civilized realm, full of peace and prosperity. Slowly though, over time, dark things rose up from the depths of the earth and the heart of the wilderness. They formed fell alliances, and made unholy pacts with creatures of demonic realms. Gathering together into great legions of chaos, they fell upon civilization like wolves on prey. Cities burned and kingdoms fell. Bodies littered the ground. The demons of the abyss laughed at the plight of the world.

Yet, just when it seemed that the light was consumed, brave heroes rose up from the ashes. They led what remained of civilization in a final war against the darkness. They won, though at great cost. Only ruins were left of the glory that had once been found in Everhome. The forces of darkness which survived slipped away into the shadows once more, hiding within the ruins of the past, and deep within unexplored wildernesses.

The civilized folk who remained slowly began to rebuild. They forged new nations and new settlements. Over time, points of hope and light grew among the ruins of the old world. Still, beyond the reaches of the light, dark things waited. They bided their time, regaining their numbers over the years, and creating new kingdoms and citadels of their own. The ruins of the old world became the new world of darkness.

And now, we come to the present day. Civilization still exists, though it is still small and concentrated in a few areas. Beyond the reaches of civilization (and below the reaches of civilization as well) darkness broods and waits for a time when it will rise up once more, and consume the lands of light for the last time. Within the ruins of the ancient kingdoms and empires, fell things lurk, and hidden nations of evil exist. Adventurers journey out from civilization, seeking their fortune within these places. Some return with great treasure. Others never return. Others bring back terrible stories of the foul things they have seen and fought. Trade caravans and merchants travel between the clusters of civilization, under heavy guard to protect them from all the manners of evil that lie in wait along the trade routes.

Demi-humans in Everhome:
Elves, Dwarves, and all sorts of Fey creatures (such as gnomes, fairies, pixies, nixies, etc) are fairly rare in Everhome. During the time when darkness rose and consumed much of the world, they were hunted and targeted more viciously than others by the forces of chaos. The ancestral lands and kingdoms of these races were laid to waste and all but a tiny portion of their populations were slaughtered. Those who survived were scattered all across the world.

In the present age, the more civilized Fey folk (Elves, Dwarves, and Gnomes) live in small communities among humans. They are too few and too scattered to form nations of their own. They live in relative harmony with humans and for the most part are treated as equals. However, there are some among the humans who carry hatred for the Fey folk. Fortunately, they are few and far between.

Halflings in Everhome are not particularly magical in any way and are not considered Fey folk. They live among humans as well, though unlike the Fey folk, they do not form special communities of their own within the human realms. They are generally treated as nothing more than smaller (and generally purer of heart than normal) humans.

Nations in the World of Everhome:
Please note that this is not a complete list at the moment. I may choose to use more of the material I have created for Everhome later on in the campaign. For now though, these are the nations that may be involved in the campaign at some point.

A note on Free Cities:
In Everhome, Free cities are large, unaffiliated cities that claim and protect a small area of land around the city as well.

List of Nations:

-Kingdom of Tural
Standard medieval fantasy kingdom.

-The United Baronies of Iller
A nation of united baronies, ruled by a council of barons. Standard medieval fantasy kingdom.

-The Principalities of Jeraf
A nation ruled by a council of princes. Standard medieval fantasy kingdom.

-The Kingdom of Tealland
A kingdom loosely based on historical Nordic culture (basically, this is a kingdom inspired by Norse mythology and general fantasy style).

-The Kingdom of Zirabaz
A desert kingdom with a loose Arabian-fantasy twist.

-The Free City of Northdale
A city state with a standard medieval fantasy culture.

-The Free City of Urakel
A city state with a standard medieval fantasy culture.
