NEW August 1, 2008! The 2nd Edition Basic Fantasy RPG Core Rules are now available in print on Lulu.com. Visit the storefront at: http://www.lulu.com/basicfantasy.

If you aren't already following the discussion on Dragonsfoot.org, please scroll down and click one of the links below to join us!

Also, I have recently joined the NearbyGamers.com website. I recommend it as a way to meet players and GMs interested in the game. If we all join, we should all be able to find each other! On NearbyGamers.com, as on other sites, I am known as Solomoriah. Join me there!

Fandomaniacs has reviewed Basic Fantasy RPG in their podcast #5 from November 13, 2007, and it seems that Rob liked it. More importantly, I got the feeling listening to the podcast that he really "got" what we are trying to do here. To listen to the podcast, or any of the other good Fandomaniacs podcasts, click the banner below:

What Is Basic Fantasy RPG?

The Basic Fantasy Role-Playing Game is a rules-light game system based on the d20 SRD v3.5, but heavily rewritten with inspiration from early RPG game systems. It is suitable for those who are fans of "old-school" game mechanics, and it's simple enough for children in perhaps second or third grade to play, yet still having enough depth for adults as well.

Curious? Take a look at the sample character sheet (click here). Or, read the introduction story, collected from the rulebook.

What Does It Cost?

Nothing. You can download the PDF files or the original OpenDocument (i.e. OpenOffice.org) files from the downloads page at no charge. Or, you can purchase a print copy from my storefront at Lulu.com, where I have published the rules at my cost. That's right... I don't make a single penny of profit from the sale of the printed copies.

I'm a believer in sharing. Some have expressed the opinion that I'm a fool not to profit from these rules, or the supplements or modules; but I have a job already, and it pays my bills. I'm not sure there's enough demand for this game to make it worth the effort of selling. But more than that, I'm committed to sharing. If I profit from the game, I enrich myself (cash) and a few who purchase (enjoyment). But I give it away, and I thus enrich many (myself, with a warm glow of generosity, and many others with the enjoyment of playing it).

Where Can I Learn More? How Can I Contribute?

Discussions regarding this game are ongoing on Dragonsfoot.org, in the Workshop and in the Simulacrum Games forum. Click the Contact Us button for a handy list of the relevant Workshop threads.
