Re: Advice For Converting Newbies?

In my experience, if they're brand new to the hobby, they have more chances of staying with BFRPG. They will see it's fun and simple. But 5e players is a different story; they tend to drop much easily. They're used to having a ton of spells/abilities, and to think on every action as in a videogame ...

Re: New to DMing and in need of tips

Go watch someone else GM a game. Watching Matt Finch GM his "Swords of Jordoba" on Youtube has been huge for me. He just has fun with it and you can tell that he is improvising a lot. Everyone is having lots of laughs and a good time. Keep a list of names. You're going to need some random ...

Re: Attempt at a new cosmology

I like this idea. If I understand you correctly, I think it is how I have run my generic homebrew settings for years. There are Clerics of LIGHT and clerics of DARKNESS. No God to follow, just ideals. Obeying those ideals/rules isthe source of the magic. Has worked for us over the years, and keeps ...

Re: Attempt at a new cosmology

Hey dude, I wasn't trying to down your cosmology thing. I was just trying to understand it. It kind of sounds like the force to me, a kind of nebulous thing that empowers folks with strange powers. And I think it's cool. The one thing I would ask if your players are already playing from the basic Dn...

Re: Attempt at a new cosmology

So, you've basically got the Star War's "Force" or something. A power that does stuff and "avatars" ("gods") that people think are real but it's just the force doing stuff/ giving powers to people. And, as a result, there is NO after life or alternate planes of dimensio...

Re: Using magical items with spell effects

I get what he's saying and I've often wondered this myself. Where exactly is it at in the rules that a lower level MU can use a wand that has a higher level spell? I've been a little bit confused by this myself but have allowed lower level MU'ers to use something like a Wand of Fireball if they foun...

Re: Are half-elves infertile?

What about half-orcs or half-ogres? Now that's disgusting. I mean, how did that happen. You would have to be pretty desperate to get jiggy with an orc :D

I get the half elf thing and maybe a gnome and a small dwarf but these other crosses . . . a little too funky for me

Re: Looking for a short one-shot

Yeah, two hours is short. A lair encounter is best. There are two old dnd supplements called "The Book of Lairs" that are really good for such encounters. J.D.'s "Monkey Isle" has some extra lair maps that you could use. Hope that helps

Re: Solomoriah Speaks E3 - An Impossible Review

I read the reddit OSR quite a bit and BFRPG is actually pretty well known and is regarded by most on that site as the best or one of the best OSR RPG's. I think it is getting a lot more well known. Honestly, I think one of the turn offs for BF is it's name. It's not got the same ring as Swords and W...

Re: Of Bards and Music

I would use Charisma as a bonus. I mean, the bard songs are all about inspiring folks to do better and be better . . . and that would seem to be a little bit more towards Charisma than Intelligence (although I can see a case for INT as well). I have had a character in my group be a bard and it was a...
