Re: Standard list of languages

I tend to see the rpg languages as families of languages, rather than just a single one - goblinoids might have different regional or racial dialects but can more or less understand each other, for example. You could have different languages for each race or sub-race if you really want too but I ...

Re: Galactic Encounters Role-Playing Game

I'm mentally kicking myself now - you had mentioned that before in the thread but I'd forgotten. Well at least I've given you a small list of skills to think about!

Re: Galactic Encounters Role-Playing Game

Traveller is a good set of rules but it makes no distinction between, say, knife combat skills and nuclear reactor skills - both are 'bought' at the same level and at the same rate. I would like to suggest that there should be a distinction between 'class' skills (skill packages that define a class ...

Re: Galactic Encounters Role-Playing Game

It does all depend on how much handwavium you care to use. I recall from somewhere in the dim recesses of my mind that the estimated power requirement for the theoretical Einstein-Rosen bridge (wormhole) was somewhere in the region of several suns worth for one trip. The power requirement should be ...

Re: Galactic Encounters Role-Playing Game

Agreed that it takes some of the more conventional space opera elements out of the game. One interesting idea from the books though is using a wormhole 'power tap' into the nearest star to power the wormhole system; using that for ships would mean they wouldn't need to carry vast amounts of fuel but ...

Re: Galactic Encounters Role-Playing Game

I'm just going to suggest a couple of sources of ideas - the webcomic 'SchlockMercenary' for the use of 'Fabbers' and the 'Commonwealth Saga' series by Peter F Hamilton for wormhole travel.
Basically, if you have stable wormhole technology anchored between 2 planets why bother with starships when ...

Re: Illusionist sub-class question

I think it must be down to the spells themselves - some of the ones available to the illusionist are more advanced than the ones available to the mage. If a mage and an illusionist were to cast the same spell then you might not be able to tell the difference between the two but the illusionist has ...

Similar indeed - just did a quick search after I posted and the moonbase in 'UFO' is located in the Sea of Tranquillity!

Different but similar.

Have you considered that the Gerry Anderson TV series' UFO and Captain Scarlet share a vaguely similar premise to Space Corps?
Just wondering at large really if there were ideas there that might inspire material for this game.

When your players kill a monster then immediately whip out a calculator to work out what they've got, you know it's no longer about the roleplaying element!

Re: Good monster book to use if using gold as xp

This.
This is why I liked BFrpg when I first read it and why I think few (if any) other OSR games even come close. The original AC/THACO rules seemed arcane and practically indecipherable to me as a beginning player but the BFrpg AC system is easily understandable, logical and can be worked out ...
