Magic Item Vault Supplement
Hey gang. I've spent most of my free time in 2023 quietly obsessing over magic items-- and in particular, miscellaneous/wondrous items. Last weekend I finally reached a point in the process where I had found myself with a list of 100 miscellaneous items, which is of course easy to roll for on a d%, ...

No reason it shouldn't be-- the changes were largely about breaking free of the OGL.

Re: Do any of the low level adventures play particularly well without thieves?
A thief's job isn't opening doors, it's opening doors quickly and quietly . Let your non-thief PCs try their hand with the lockpicks, if they like, but make it less effective than a thief would be. Or let them kick the door down or bash the chest open and see how making a noise like a herd of elepha...

Re: Basic Fantasy RPG Core Rules 4th Edition
From that blog post: But back to the subject of fantasy. Tolkien, as we know, capitalized Elf, Dwarf, Orc, Hobbit, and Men, but he did this primarily in reference to the collective races of Elves, Dwarves, Orcs, Hobbits, and Men. When he spoke of a small party of dwarves or the hobbits of the Shire...

Re: Rust Monster or Ironbane, part 2
Nothing against the noble rust monster but isn't the Ironbane just more interesting to look at?
And also far less likely to come afoul of artistic depictions owned by a certain tyrannical corporation?

Re: AI Tools for homebrew in Basic Fantasy
Well said Solo.
If we ever reach the point where an AI can say, understand, and mean what it is to engage in creative synthesis? Sure, I'd love to have it write for BFRPG. We are not there yet, and that is not what AI generation tools do as they exist today.

I couldn't be more strongly against this. No. Never. I would give up BFRPG forever over this.

Re: Goopy Critters
I'll point out that grouping all oozes together is pointedly not what 2e does, preferring the far more baroque, and frankly kind of dumb, option of grouping various types of oozes together-- jellies, puddings, slimes, etc. Thus such misbegotten nothings as the Dun Pudding, the Mustard Jelly, and the...

Re: Why is bullette pronounced like that?
Alternatively: why is it spelled like that? "Boo-lay". It's clear what to call this land shark, but it's unclear to me how it got its spelling. I've called them bull-etts for as long as I've known about them, having only ever read the word before in either the "Manual" or the &q...

Re: It happened: OGL 1.0a remains untouched!
... Hmm. What would you guys think about taking the horned version of RamsHorn's kobold the "standard" kobold? Horned, dog-headed but not reptilian keeps us clean, and lots of people liked that depiction. https://www.basicfantasy.org/forums/download/file.php?id=6522 We still need to figur...
