The Earthsea Quintet actually. The fifth book is often sadly forgotten. I would consider that series to be a masterpiece of its time. One of my favorites. I just want to say that I agree wholeheartedly with Solo's view on magic resistance. It is not a good mechanic at all IMO.

I know of what you speak. I have relatives in the northeast who observe such traditions. I have heard many wonderful things about Spaetzle, but sadly, I have never gotten to try it.

Lords of the Rings is decent work, but there are other writers and series out there that I enjoy reading more. To name some: Susan Cooper, Lloyd Alexander, Ursula K.
