Re: Basic Fantasy RPG Core Rules

For what it's worth, I remember GG stating that he lifted the Gorgon from a Medieval Bestiary. In mythology, a gorgon is one of 3 women and Medusa is only one of the 3 who was mortal. I've never used the gorgon that much but to be safe, you could called it an Iron Gorgon or something like that. The...

Re: Basic Fantasy RPG Core Rules

Well Kraken is also an Individual rather than a type, as too Gorgons as the Metal Bull with a breath weapon, those are actually a Greek Mythological thing already, The Khalkotauroi also known as the Colchis Bulls were something Jason and his Boat Buddies had to deal with I know the kraken in mythol...

Re: Basic Fantasy RPG Core Rules

I wouldn't hate that, I like catoblepases better than bull-type gorgons. Something else occurs to me. Maybe we should be looking to Paizo in terms of what is or isn't safe to use? As you may be aware they've announced they're going to stop using the OGL and bring out their license. But they haven't ...

Re: Monster Origins

There is a monster called the manananggal from Philippine Mythology that's pretty close to a stirge. That name seems original to Gygax. Even if we turn stirges into giant mosquitoes, the manananggal would be interesting to add to FG3. This is the Penangalan (I've missed some letters) from the 1E AD...

Re: Basic Fantasy RPG Core Rules

I like windchimes a lot. Flute is actually better in some ways, but is too... convenient. Most of the four classic Devices are inconvenient to carry and/or use, which is I think part of the design. Regarding saving throws... yeah, sort of. I'm not changing the monster listings in the rulebook, but ...

Re: Basic Fantasy RPG Core Rules

Is it too late to suggest a Magnet of Commanding Metal Elementals instead?

What about a kiln of commanding wood elementals? Like the sort that one might use for drying hardwood?

leon wrote: Fri Jan 13, 2023 6:40 pm There is a 1968 movie called The Green Slime. It's likely safe to use that same name, or else surely Green Jelly is fine.
I was about to bring up that movie myself, not least because it has the greatest theme song ever recorded.

Re: Style guide

As an aside, I do not understand the attraction of the roll-under-ability-score rules. It's mechanically backwards, as the only thing we normally roll under are percentiles, and does not take level of ability into account. Only things where gaining a level just does not give you an advantage (like ...

Re: Druids Supplement

Thanks LL! If anyone wants to suggest textual rewrites of these spells, just post them here, it's a short enough list. Everyone can weigh in on terminology etc. Taken care of Call Lightning Druid 3, Range: 130' Duration: 1 hour/level When you cast this spell, a bolt of lightning strikes down from t...

Re: Druids Supplement

Went ahead and gave this one a quick once-over for SRD content. Introduction (p1) No text in common with SRD, good to go. New Character Class (p1) No text in common with SRD, good to go. Spells (p2) No text in common with SRD, other than some (fairly general and probably safe) spell names Descriptio...
