What level are they? They should only be able to cast sleep a mere handful of times a day.
One way would be a strange aura in one of the areas that prevents magic from working unless the caster makes a Spells Save.

Two small problems is my work (now that I'm back to it) is erratic in scheduling though I'm supposedly going to a set rotation "soon". Second issue is that I may well be moving in the next few months.
