Room 19 - The Hidden Room

room 19.png
room 19.png (6.1 KiB) Viewed 1383 times

***Boxed Text***
The secret door opens and reveals a short corridor of about 20 feet. The floor is covered in dust and it shows that no living being has come in here for ages.
***End Boxed Text***

Note: You can read this boxed text regardless of which entrance the players come in from.

Pit traps: There are two pit trap (10x10 feet) in this room, both being in the hallways that lead to the actual room. If more than 200 pounds are placed on the pit trap, the floor collapses and anything that happens to be on it starts sliding on a steep 45 degrees cobblestone slope along with a few stones that once were part of the flooring until it reaches a room below, taking 1d4 damage. A successful save VS dragon breath allows the player to jump to the side and avoid falling. Both traps connect to the same room one level below. The traps will not close again once they have been triggered.

Note to GM: There is nothing in this room.

Updated master post.

We are still missing rooms 23 and 24 to be on track. A couple more random encounters wouldn't hurt either.

I'd like to try, but I'm not sure if it works well.

Please, feel free to edit this! If you think this needs to be changed to work better with an idea you have, or to blend in with the theme you want for this dungeon, please, feel free to change it.

25. Abandoned study

The secret door to this room is opened by simply pushing the wall. It them turns around, allowing to enter into the room.

*** Boxed text: ***
The air in this room is drier than outside. There is a faint smell, but it's hard to pinpoint what smell it is. There is a lot of dust lying around. The first thing you see is a broken wooden bed.
*** End boxed text ***

On the eastern side of the room, there is broken wooden bed. One of its legs is broken. The bedcloth has been thinned by the time; and the straw inside of the mattress has turned to dust.

There is a table near the northern side of the room. On the table, there is a notebook, feather and dried ink.

The notebook consists of 12 paper pages, 8 of them filled. It appears unfinished. It is written using a cypher. It's a script that was most likely created by its author. Casting read languages will allow to read the script, but will reveal a text full of codewords, like "when a half-bear travel through water, but not though swamp, a lily blooms". This seems to be description of something, but all the words are replaced with code names. This notebook is worth 2d6 gp for collectors.

In the western side of the room there are shelves, with 1d8 dirty glass bottles containing spoiled magical ingredients in them. The ingredients have gone bad and are unusable. They have been in the bottles for so long that even if the bottles are washed with water, they will not become clean: the ingredients have affected the glass, so that putting any food or water into the bottles them will make it go bad immediately. Casting neutralize poison on the dirty glass bottles allows using them as normal glass bottles.

P.S. If #25 is not a good place for this, it can also be moved to any other place.

I haven't read through it yet... have any "empty" rooms been designed?

Such a room should have description, even contents, but no "monsters" or "treasure" or "traps" or "specials." Clues are a common thing to drop into otherwise-empty rooms.

Room 23 - The Dressing Room

***Boxed Text***
This room is fairly small in comparison with what is found elsewhere on this level of the dungeon. It appears to have once been a dressing room, though the passing of time has unfortunately ruined most or the furniture and the clothing that was left here. A few shelves hanged on wall are covered in dust while two small wooden benches lay in the middle of the room. There are also three wooden mannequins similar to the ones used by tailors to sow dresses. Lastly a large wardrobe made of solid oak is located against the southern wall.
***End Boxed Text***

Note to GM: This room was once a dressing room where the warriors would come and change. It has been since pillaged and none of the original clothing remains except for a few pieces of worthless cloth and rags.

The large wardrobe: It appears to be wall mounted and it is indeed impossible to move unless one breaks or otherwise disassembles the wardrobe. It is large 10 feet and high 8 feet and opens with two doors. On each doors is a mirror that's 10x5 feet. The left mirror has been smashed while the right one remains intact. Anything the wardrobe once contained is gone.

Secret door: A close examination of the wardrobe allows a check to find a hidden door on its back. The door is not locked and can simply by opened by pushing it. If the wardrobe is forcibly removed or damaged enough to uncover the wall, the players will find a large 4x6 feet door.

Updated master post.

We are entering the last sprint for level 1. We are still behind with the following rooms: 24, 27, 28. In addition, we would need another 4 random encounters by January 31st.

Random encounter
7: Root Crawlers 1d2 (of an unknown total) - see room 16 for full description.
8: Chameleon Rats 1d12 (of an unknown total) - see below for description.

Chameleon Rats

Use stats for normal, and giant rats from the Basic Fantasy Role-Playing Core Rules.

Chameleon rats have a hairless skin similar to chameleons, and are able to blend in with their surroundings. They have been bred, and domesticated by gnomes to clean cave systems, and dungeons while remaining mostly unseen. Hidden chameleon rats can be detected on a roll of 1 on 1d6.

They feed on mushrooms, insects, dungeon puddings, and jellies, and sometimes, carrion. A swarm of chameleon rats are able to feed on, and digest a pudding, or jelly of average size within 1d6 turns.

Their saliva can be used to clean wounds, and if prepared properly to create a potion to cure poisons, and some diseases. A recipe can be found among the scrolls in room 8.

There is rumor of titan-sized chameleon rats.

Chameleon Rat, Titan: AC 15, HD 5, #At 2 bite, claw Dam 1d6+1, 1d6, Mv 40', Swim 20', Sv as F5, Ml 9, XP 360

Room 30.
Throne of the One True King.
Boxed text.
There is a large steel throne with a small skeletal figure wearing floating barely off the throne. ages old marks of a battle of mages still linger. There is a large goblet and sceptre in the floating Mage's hand. The smell of decay is rampant in this room. As the sound of the dungeon denizens skitter around the dungeon, the feel of long dead bone crunch beneath your feet.

Note to GM:
This is the throne room of the One True King, ruler of all the land. The skeletal figure is Bhusher the Bloodthirsty. Long, long ago, The kingdom of Zarini ruled the land fairly using an artifact known as the One True Crown, making the wearer to become ruler of all kingdoms. This artifact is lost to the lower levels. One day an evil vampiric sorcerer called Bhusher the Bloodthirsty tried to take the crown for himself.

The king Darnian and Bhusher dueled for hours until both of them died in a arcane blast. The kings two trusted generals are frozen in stone (marked by the stars on the map) but can be undone if Bhusher hits them with a spell. The sceptre and goblet are worth 100 platinum each.

There is a cavity under the throne (can be moved by force or magic) with a vault of 113 platinum. Bhusher has 3 10gp bracelets, the throne itself is worth 4000gp (it is heavy and requires at least two characters to carry it), the fallen chandelier is worth 300gp(takes a turn to fully grab there are 40 gp crystals in the generals' swords.

Statblocks
Bhusher (uses the vampire spawn statblock, loses the weapon resistance but gains the ability to cast Light once a day)
Generals x2 (same as earth elementals, from a staff, will try to harm Bhusher due to being the one that froze them in the first place and considered undead, along with no weapon resistance. They have a morale of 7, understanding gnomish and common)
