Ideally this thread. We've been a little fast and loose for FG3 entries, we'll need to sort those out later. And of course anything posted in this thread is open to possibly go into FG3. Edited first post.

Monster Conversion help?

Hey y'all!
Just a quick question which is also the title.
Also I might have other questions later on. So, we'll see!

So, I am trying to convert the Mind Flayer from 3E D&D to use in BFRPG. But I can't quite figure out how to do that. I downloaded the The Fine Art Of Monster Conversion from the Downloads page and gave it a look.
But either it's more complex than it looks, or its just not clicking with me. Either way, if someone could provide some guidance I'd appreciate it a lot.
Thank you.

~Nightwulf (totally didn't forget about this place at all.. Nope not at all.)

The Field Guide has a creature called the THULID that might work for you. If so, then your work is done.

Happy Hunting.

Spell Ripper
Armor Class: 13‡
Hit Dice: 1*
No. of Attacks: 2 claws
Damage: 1d4 claw
Movement: 20'
No. Appearing: 1-2
Save As: Fighter: 1
Morale: 12
Treasure Type: None
XP: 400

A spell ripper is an undead creature inscribed with runes. The jaws are removed from the animated corpse, and the only sustenance it gains is by draining spells from Magic-Users.

The glowing runes on a spell ripper store arcane spells allowing the creature to 'cast' them. When the spell is cast the rune goes dark and can only be reactivated by striking a Magic-User. Magic-Users struck in this fashion must Save vs. Paralysis (or Petrify) or lose one of their higher-level spells (determined at random by the GM).

Additionally, the spell ripper can choose to 'eat' the spells contained within its runes for sustenance. By doing so, it can replenish (or gain) 1 HD equal to the level of the spell contained in the rune. In addition, the spell ripper gains the saving throws of a Fighter of equal level to the spell consumed.

Can you elaborate on its physical appearance; is it simply a jaw-less animated corpse/zombie or more?
The last paragraph needs some clarification. Do you mean "1 HD for each spell level"? Gains the saving throws of a Fighter? Since its base save is as a Fighter: 1, is that a temporary "boost" when a spell is consumed?

How about something like:

Additionally, a Spell Ripper can choose nourish from the spells contained within its runes. By doing so, it can gain Hit Points equal to 1d8 per spell level consumed. Hit Points gained above his maximum are temporary lasting 24hs. A Spell Ripper can nourish from spells only when not having temporary Hit Points. In addition, a Spell Ripper's saving throws is that of a fighter of a level equal to the spell level consumed.
