Some recent minis. The bug is a Dollar Tree Final Faction monster I bought.

My father made this air ship for me out of wood. I did the planking, detailing and painting. Obviously I jazzed up the picture in post. (I made the Dralasite too, no matter what they are calling them nowadays. They'll always be Dralasites to me!)

Teaman, great painting on the minis again, the viking looks cool and the ship is wonderful. Tell your Dad he does great work!!!!

You've inspired me again and now I've got some Dollar General spiders, scorpions, and rats that I want to start painting on soon. If I can get creative with them maybe I can start working on my book again.

Thanks so much Al. Yes, my dad does great work!

Looking forward to seeing your results. Dollar Tree around Halloween is a good place to pick up a lot of fantasy monsters. Thanks again.

3D printing

Post by teaman »

I thought someone here in the minis forum might be able to help me.

Just got an Ender 3 Neo Max printer. It's great, except it doesn't 3D print. Oh, it tries. And then the piece slips off the heated bed EVERY. SINGLE. TIME.

I've tried:

-Elmer's Purple Glue stick
-Cleaning the plate and relevelling it
-Masking tape (sticky side down)
-Book tape (sticky side up, secured around the edges with masking tape.)
-Set the Z-offset to 0.1 mm

I'm kinda running out of options. Does anyone know how to fix this? You'll have my eternal gratitude.

What's your filament? Type and temperature specifications, please.

It's PLA, and I was running the print at about 200 nozzle temp and 60 bed temp. I tried preheating the bed to both 80 and even 100 to see if that helped.

Thanks in advance, that was a quick reply!

Try 50 on the bed.

PLA will theoretically stick to a cold bed. I used blue tape before I got my PEI bed, and I found adhesion worked better with a lower temp. However, the PEI bed only sticks properly at 60.

Thanks, I will try the cooler bed temperature. Is PEI a special bed, a sheet of plastic, or a sheet of plastic that you put on like contact paper? I know I peeled off (and threw away) a peice of plastic when I took it out of the box, thinking it was just a protective sheet like on monitors.

Maybe I shot myself in the foot with that one?

Thanks so much for the technical advice. It may not be the last time I ask!

I paid $63.00 for a magnetic PEI-covered bed plate. I can pull it off the printer and flex it to free a part, then just drop it back on the magnetic sheet. But for you it's be under half what I paid, as I have an Ender 5 Plus (big bed). PEI releases the PLA when it cools, sometimes, but holds it while it's hot. I did have to change to non-marring tools because I don't want to damage the PEI sheet; I haven't found a cost-effective replacement source yet.
