Hex Mapping

Post by Solomoriah »

How does everyone feel about adding hex mapping capabilities to the website?

Here's a sample showing the tiles and a general idea of the layout:

I don't know where I got the tiles (there's no README, and I can't remember) so if anyone knows where they come from, please tell me.

I'll have to create five different coastline tiles and three river tiles yet, and then wrap a user interface around the map generator. The map generation is the easy part, actually; the user interface will be the part that makes my head hurt.

So I'm running into a problem, and could use some help. The coastline and river tiles (and eventually the road tiles) need to meet at the borders in such a way that they don't look, well, bent. I'm not enough of an artist to do it.

Here's a sample:

I think the picture makes the issue clear.

Anyone interested in helping?

EDIT: Uploaded a better sample.

I had to download the image to zoom in quite a bit; a see just barely a bend at the upper left, and more noticeable on the lower left. I'm no artist either, but this is my quickly-edited example with a pencil tool.

I would love something like this!!!!
The problem with doing something really stupid to impress people is that they may just be impressed by how stupid you really are.
