Hey!
I'd really like to develop a Sorcerer for BFRPG. Never actually played this game, but I'm in the verge of creating my first campaign.
I'd really need to incorporate a Sorcerer - like class, with "on the fly" casting, but I'd like to know how would you balance it with a Magic User.
Key factors:
- low number of known spells (start with 2, get some as you advance in levels... how many?)
- cast on slots as you see fit
- no unlearn option, I don't like it at all.
- I'd like to implement a little bit of a "legacy" feature, like a percentage knowledge skill + resistance to a specific power (like elementals, undead, demons, etc).
For the base, I'd stick to Magic-Users (progression, hd, slots).
hints?
Thank you!

Here is my take on Sorcerer... though it is themed a little differently. At the end of the document is some commentary on using the ideas there to actualize traditional sorcerer (if that can be considered 'traditional' ), or other themed approaches.

Is it really the end, not some crazy dream?

I would go with a standard MU modified by:
-Charisma or Wisdom as required ability
-Point-based buy system for spell learning
-Spontaneous casting
-No magical research
-No ability to create scroll or magical objects

Sorry for any misspelling or writing error, I am not a native English speaker

There is a sorcerer class in the Showcase: http://basicfantasy.org/showcase.cgi?sid=117
Ray "maddog" Allen submitted it way back in 2006; it was one of the first supplements.
However, if you want "on the fly" casting, download the Magic-User Options supplement and look at the Liberal Casting rule. You can get the supplement on the Downloads page here: http://basicfantasy.org/downloads.html#magicuseroptions
