Expanded class progression tables

Post by onearmspence »

Hi
Looking at the DD reference rules hypertext I found an expanded progression table for each class, that included the saving throws. It made me wonder why BFRPG is organized the way it is. I mean, why the cleric description doesnt include the turn undead table? Are there any plans to rework the way some info is organized in the book? Like expanded class progression tables that include the attack bonus and saving throws?

One supplement that might be what you need is the Ultimate Character Charts. It's on the downloads page or you can use this direct link:

I've raised similar questions/criticisms long ago. The simple answer is "because that's how B/X was written/organized".

IMHO The homage to B/X wouldnt suffer from a minor change like the one suggested. I mean BFRPG has Ascending AC and split race and class. Unless there’s more about the organization than grouping common topics. Like it’s easier for a new people to provide the info this way, so they don’t get overwhelmed with lots of stats...

The books are organized primarily for the GM's use, as that's how they are used most of the time. Having the AB, turn undead, and saving throws all in The Encounter is meant to speed up play. Players creating characters have time to flip pages... the GM running a complicated encounter doesn't.

When playing with newbies, always use JD Jarvis' character sheet; it has the page numbers for EVERYTHING on it.

If anything, I've spaced those statistics too far apart in the core rules... :D

The cool part of having all the books available as open office files is, with a little work, you can reformat them however you want. If your result is really cool, submit it as a new DL.
