I don't think there will ever be such a detailed comparison. We go to lengths just to avoid naming such inspirational material.

Naming and associating directly with a copyrighted work, would mean that BFRPG is trying to capitalize on the name-recognition and marketing efforts of those works, no matter how old or apparently irrelevant (up through end of copyright). We do not dally with anything remotely illegal, un-ethical, or even marginally shifty... the 'costs' of any sort of legal entanglement would not be worth it... remember this all operates largely on free/low cost goods and services, goodwill of members (and Chris), and otherwise does not have a $$ reserve that could fight any legal issues.

So as to your question, best to make your own surmises and comparisons, because I doubt you get much on this subject from any official sources.
Is it really the end, not some crazy dream?

You'll likely find more reviews, etc. comparing Basic Fantasy RPG to Labyrinth Lord.

Indeed, I am specifically permitted to discuss how LL and BFRPG differ. However I won't get into it without more specific questions being asked.

BFRPG excels at emulating the old school experience, almost no matter which one you are looking for. I think it does this because while it is trying to be old school, it was never meant to be a 1:1 clone of one particular edition.

You can always limit what classes demihumans may take to emulate one version of the game, or allow more options for another version. There are so many optional races, classes and even spells available to make the game more "advanced" if you like.

Now, this is from someone who has three copies of the core rulebook stashed in various locations and others on more than one hard drive. It's obviously my game of choice. I love that it has the old school flavor, but there is a lot of new material out there that builds from them.

Don't know if this helps, but it's what I love about BFRPG.

The most obvious differences are (correct me if I'm wrong):
Divided race and class
Ascending AC
Attack Bonus instead of attack tables
Different Saving Throw progression
20 levels vs 7 levels
I think BF uses a different Undead Turning progression

I think you got a lot of them, that should help.

The "basic" game from the old days just had 3 levels; adding the "expert" book got you 14 total.

Did not mean to step on any sensitive toes....

The question came as my son is going to join a local RPG Holiday activity,
which is run by guy who runs clubs at many schools around here.
The organiser asked me, if my son has any previous experience.
When I replied BFRPG he asked what are the main point between it and 5th.
He also asked for pointer at the web site....

I liked his question, it showed me he is serious, but was not sure about the answer ;-)

Got enough in this thread to answer - so thanks.
