I do 1hp by the book for simplicity. And it makes me laugh every time I hear a modern D&D player take a "long rest" and regain all their HP.

I use a few house rules.

By Class HD:
d4 - gets 1 point of healing base
d6 - gets 2 point of healing base
d8 - gets 3 point of healing base
d10 - gets 4 point of healing base (yes, I have cases where this is normal)
gets to add CON bonus to the healing when on proper bed rest

This helps to speed up healing a tad for those classes that are more physical in nature (ie the Fighters), and just seemed more fair. Bigger, stronger, healthier folks ought to be getting back to normal quicker, eh?... not penalized with weeks on end of bed-rest when the sickly MU bounces back in short order.
Is it really the end, not some crazy dream?

This is actually very cool, I think I'll use it in my games :) thanks for sharing!

I've always liked the "heal 1hp per level" house rule too. With Con bonus too. Maybe that would be another option for you.

1HD per day
Each week of full rest heals 25% of max HP.

I like the idea of number of hp depends on the hit dice yeah that seems reasonable means characters will heal at a fairly uniform rate , I like it I think that will become a house rule thanks.

I actually don't let players recover any hp from resting until the third night of rest.
In real life, it takes about 2 weeks to fully heal even the slightest of scratches.

Back in college, I was in a weekly judo class and if you'd be unlucky enough to suffer some carpet burns from a throw it wouldn't heal in time for the next session.

Regarding the CON bonus...

I see some of you add it to healing. Do you subtract it if the CON "bonus" is a negative value?

A lower CON score possible meaning a weaker immune response, the character catches colds a lot, doesn't heal as quickly as others, etc.

I do add the con modifier, be it positive or negative to the HD roll for recovering health.

If I where using a flat value I would also add it, and in the case of a 0 or lower value the pc would heal 1HP after some days.
