Stand behind the dwarf or halfling (if you have such) and throw daggers at the back row of enemies. I don't know about you, but I don't require rolling to hit friends when you throw a dagger at an unengaged enemy.

That's a good point, and a good idea. I realllllly need to play a magic user at some point. It would be a good challenge for me and an opportunity for me to figure out how the class works and how to manage it.

I would be ok with darts as they are easier to use than knives or daggers but I would give them 1d3 damage and same range as daggers

Looking at pictures, medieval darts might have been larger than daggers.
