Different Editions of rulebooks

Post by feveredmonk »

I'm seeing three editions in the Rule books and Adventure Modules: 1st, 2nd, and 3rd.

Does the edition refer to the document or have there been three editions of BFRPG?

"Edition" is used in the textbook sense, not in the modern game rulebook sense. Thus, 1st, 2nd, and 3rd edition rulebooks are describing the same rules, with only very minor changes. The editions of the other books (modules, etc.) do not "follow" or "track" the Core Rules editions... most of the early ones are marked 2nd Edition while the newer ones are marked 1st Edition. Sometime I suppose I'll release a 3rd Edition of Morgansfort, but as Borgar isn't done with the maps I'm not expecting it right away.

Thanks. I come from OD&D and BECMI days. I'm past the trauma of multiple competing editions and not being able to afford all the stuff, mostly, so was curious about the history of the editions.
