Number of attacks by monsters.

Post by Ricesteam »

Newbie here:

I'm trying to understand the rules about the number of attacks that can be made by a monster. In the 3rd ed. rules, there is an example: "Ghouls are marked 2 claws/1 bite as they can attack with both claws and also bite in one round."

Does that mean a Ghoul can attack with both claws AND a bite in a single turn (Roll 3 attack rolls)?
Does it mean both claws OR a bite in a single turn? (Roll 2 attack rolls OR 1 attack roll for the bite)?

Yes, it can attack with both forms of attack. Any stat-block/line that says "Attack 1/Attack 2" means both each round, while "Attack 1 or Attack 2" is only one of those each round (GM or situational choice?).

Chi is, of course, correct. But I suspect some confusion here, Rice. We are using the older/traditional definition of "round" and "turn." Rounds are used in combat, and in one combat round the ghoul can claw twice and bite once. A "turn" is 10 minutes, which is a bunch of rounds, and in one turn a ghoul could attack a lot more than three times.
