Parlay with Monsters

Post by Ninja Bear »

I agree that parlaying with monsters can be a smart move. One thing though that never seems to be explained in books and forums among the web is why would “evil” monsters want to parlay with the characters?

Thoughts?

Any reasonable being (monster or otherwise) would seek to negotiate, parlay, trade, or otherwise interact with others when it seems of benefit to itself... or if the party might be able to harm it. Just being "evil" does not make a being stupid, nor make it throw out any sense of self-preservation.
Is it really the end, not some crazy dream?

Evil does not necessarily mean "purely aggressive", its a matter of intelligence, personal goals and tactics, etc.

Ok, I haven’t figured out the like button. But thanks for the responses. That was how I ran the goblins the other game. Two goblins were surprised by the Players and the players gave them a chance to retreat without a fight. Plus there was some intimidation going on too from the players.
