It happened: OGL 1.0a remains untouched!

Post by kerc »

The fans won, and the OGL 1.0a will remain untouched by WotC. However, this still doesn't mean they might try to hijack things again in the future. But man, what a pie in the face for Hasbro! I have enclosed the image sent out by them making the announcement on Twitter.

What a ride!

Yeah, see my reply in stickied thread. This shouldn't change our plans, but it's a surprising step. Still gonna go our own way, and I suspect most will still do the same.

Yep. The trust was broken, and that's gonna be very difficult to repair, if ever at all. The direction BFRPG is taking is a much more comfortable one from a fan and creator perspective.

Looks like Beholder's back on the menu, boys! (At least the name, the description and stat block still might have to be different)

And Owlbear with full description and stats is available as well!

Even if they are fair game, I feel better staying away from them, we've proved that we can create equal or better creatures, that we work together, listen to each other, and that we evolved as a community.
They proved the opposite.

We're getting the Owlbear and Rust Monster and Magic Missile and Dimension Door and Gauntlets of Ogre Power back!

... still leaning towards renaming ESP though. Never liked that.

But we're keeping the new monsters, and the new Miscellaneous Item generation system.

Soon I'll show them to you ALL.

Will we have to reference their ogl and srd for owlbear and such.
If so, I would rather continue with reskin and rename efforts
Is it really the end, not some crazy dream?

The release of the 5.1 SRD under Creative Commons 4.0 International (CC BY 4.0) is surprising...as it is much more permissive than any version of the OGL has ever been.

I know this moves BFRPG away from the target game, but I prefer it. Using the new takes makes it more unique. And cuts us from being linked to "them", it makes the game fully independent.

Yes.
I would prefer BFRPG be sqeaky clean... free and clear from their whims.

As if a game is not viable or complete without an Rust Monster or Owlbear entry!?!
