I do want the "bad" kobolds to be the default.

I associate draconic kobolds with post-2000 editions and hate the idea with the passion of a thousand exploding stars.
Seconded... the firm dragon related thing is a more recent construct.
I still like the idea of putting a definitive BFRPG spin on these (in fact for everything we can possibly twist the concept). It makes BFRPG stronger and unique by having its own Vibe.
Is it really the end, not some crazy dream?

Maybe dividing Kobolds in 2 types? Horned and "non-horned"?
Horned are bad bad, the other are good boys

Maybe the horned ones are the grunts, the furry ones do other labors, less feral, more witty.

Hey, if you're between 2.5 and 3 feet tall and competing with things like orcs, hobgoblins and ogres for living space, you'd be pretty angry anytime some NEW bozo showed up!

It's not unprecedented for people to use one name for several, different things. Maybe most of the time, kobold means the vaguely reptilian guys, but sometimes they mean the cute, dog-faced dudes. I'm still thinking about blue-skinned kobolds that eat your silver and trick you into smelting poisonous ore.

Ah, you see I was gone from the hobby from about 1994 until 2015. I missed a bunch of crucial intermediate history. But I recall Kobolds being depicted as reptilian while I was still active in the late 80s. Now I cannot find the reference, of course.

1E presented them as reptilian, but the understanding was more lizard than dragon. Insignificant little buggers, in other words.
