What puts me off however is having to figure out that Magic Dart is now Magic Missile, or that a Rust Monster is now a Corroder. It might seem trivial, but this is what made the success of BFRPG, being able to play the original game with just a few house rules thrown in.
FWIW this is what initially drew me to bfrpg over some of the other options.

And it's why I'm wanting to go back to traditional names in most cases.

I’m obviously biased in wanting the schnauzers be in the core book.

I started off feeling neutral about them as it was just a drawing I was asked to do. But over time I got more invested in the idea of these being the new Basic Fantasy kobolds after posting them on Facebook and the feedback we got.

But I do get it if we don’t end up using them. I’m all for doing what’s best for the project.

Maybe going with both old and new names is a good way to keep everyone happy?

I really like the creatures that have been created and we should totally keep them, but I also think that we need to leverage the new 5.1 SRD under CC as much as we can. Basic Fantasy is after all a clone of the original game and in my personal opinion, it should try to be as faithful as possible.

Cross compatibility with the original game, but also with other OSR systems is a major factor for me, but also for many people that play BFRPG. My fear, if we diverge too much is that we might lose that compatibility and get in the way of compatibility with older TSR-era modules and all these other amazing modules and supplements put out by the OSR community.

So I firmly believe that we should ditch the OGL for good and use the 5.1 SRD as much a we can to replicate the basic and expert edition look and feel.
This is what I was trying to say in the other thread, but you put it much more elegantly. Thank you.

What would you guys think about taking the horned version of RamsHorn's kobold the "standard" kobold? Horned, dog-headed but not reptilian keeps us clean, and lots of people liked that depiction.

We still need to figure out what to do with Gabe's kobolds.

I guess I need another poll... oh, and guys, I posted a poll about dragons. Go click a button already.
I want to say for the record that when I think "kobold" outside the specific lens of D&D and its spinoffs, this is probably the closest to what I picture, except maybe the lack of a tail.

(Even in a D&D context it's pretty close, lacking only a more archosaurian/draconic snout.)

OK, this is funny, but how about...

Kobolds, Repensan -- aka common kobolds with reptilian features
Kobolds, Caninan -- aka dog-faced, furry kobolds
Kobolds, Argentan -- aka silvereaters, blue skin, etc
I think this is a great aporoach because everyone can get what they want and ignore the others if they choose to. I like the kobolds as they are but I understand that they might feel a bit to cliché for someone

Oh man, I really like this idea of multiple types of kobolds running around. Encounter/adventure ideas spawn from such variety!

Right! For instance, each of the main encounter areas on the Mysterious Island could feature one of the subtypes. :)
