Galen nods in agreement, and then gestures towards the kobold, "we may need to take some precautions to keep our little friend secret."

Galen speaks in goblini (trying to approximate what he can of the koboldish dialect), "We will be heading into a human settlement, so we will need to be careful for your safety. You understand what can happen if you wander from our protection?"
Racht nods "Yeah, yeah. They'll chase me around and accuse me of eating babies and hang me out as a warning to the next ten generations that my kind is not tolerated. The same thing happened to Aunt Tissee." For a humanoid tongue, Goblini lends itself well to hyperbole.

Bill looks over the group. "Sounds like you've got a plan. There's a couple of game trails we could head out on if you want to avoid the road. Now I can hitch a wagon up to the old girls, or we can take 'em by foot. It'd be slow going for the wagon, if passable at all, until we got to the Lakeford Road."

Saeloria pipes up, "As much as I'd prefer the added 'comfort' and protection of a wagon, I think it would be more of a hinderance than a help. Until we are well clear of this place mobility and speed should be a priority, I think."
The problem with doing something really stupid to impress people is that they may just be impressed by how stupid you really are.

Wagons make a lot of noise and attract unwanted attention. I am for the game trails.

"Right, then. Let me get the girls pack-saddled and we'll be on the way."

As Bill heads back to the stables, Oleg beams and rushes back into the kitchen for more supplies.

Galen inspects his pack one more time and is ready to move when the group is.
Is it really the end, not some crazy dream?

With additional supplies gathered and packed, Bill meets you in the stable yard, then leads you into the ruins of the town. Bill explains: "Most of them boys don't have the woodlore to track worth a copper. Keep out of the high grass, and I doubt they'll know where we ran off. We'll cut west a jog, then take one of the game trails to the south. We'll be a good two-three hours west of the Lakeford road, but I reckon you want to put a day or so south before we start working back. I doubt the boys'll want to venture far off the road, 'specially this close to sundown."

After about a half hour, you have passed through the ruin of Grenwood, and follow the old road to where the woods come right up to the road again. It's hard to see in the long light, but there is definitely a trail head here - truly little more than a track the local wildlife use.

(any last comments before commencing?)

-------
Wildlands, west of Grenwood. Date Unknown, 5:30pm
Somewhere between Stonefall and Lakeford
