One money saving trick is to buy white canvas at a fabric store (can even get remnants), tape them to a board or cardboard and prime them yourself. House primer is fine (and cheap). It can save you from the wooden canvas expense.
There's also paper made for oil painting. Here's one type:

Seriously great work If she keeps at it, she better put some prints and/or originals for sale on Etsy or such, I'd absolutely put up some $ for one or more!
