My point was actually that they ran out of food and therefore if still alive have to be working with someone, whether favorably or not, and whoever that is, they more than likely won't be glad to see us (even if the crew is) and will could cause a battle that the ship is not prepared for.

You are too paranoid. they may have gotten the food replicators working on the Martian ship, or be foraging underground farms, or or had been transporting foodstuffs to some far planet, or created hydroponics on their ship, or working with the Illuminati to take over the galaxy.

there could be a lot of good explanations how human ingenuity allowed them to survive.
