The Lands of Ulyr Campaign Setting:

Background:

Long ago, the Empire of Carthas ruled over the Lands of Ulyr. It was a powerful nation, nigh indestructible in the eyes of many. The Emperor Mortrath was a powerful sorcerer who was said to be thousands of years old. One could only guess what dark magic he used to keep himself alive. The Emperor was a brutal ruler. He summoned foul creatures of the nether to do his bidding, to slay those who opposed his rule. No one knows what happened that night. The night the Empire fell. It was said that a great cloud of crimson smoke covered the entire Empire, enveloping it like a great beast. The folk in the lands bordering the Empire heard great screeches that echoed through the night, and saw flashes of violet light which illuminated the cloud. No one dared cross the border.

When morning came, the Empire was in ruins. There was not a soul to be found, not even a body. All the livestock were gone. Every building was ruined, as if by an earthquake. All was silent. Then came the plunderers. They stole as much as they could. Then came the humanoids, taking up residence in the ruins of the Empire.

That was two hundred years ago. The past is easily forgotten, by men at least. Slowly settlements have been built (by brave entrepreneurs and traders) on the outskirts of the ruined Empire, which is now called the Ruined Lands. Treasure hunters comb the land, trying to find some great treasure. You too have now come, seeking your fortune. What lies ahead?

Border Villages:

These are the villages that are built on the outskirts of the Ruined Lands. They serve mainly as marketplaces where Treasure Hunters can sell their treasure and buy equipment and supplies. Most are fairly small settlements. They are usually centered about an Inn and a General Store (which also serves as a bank-type establishment). Most Border Villages are governed by small councils of four to six merchants (often the ones who founded the village).

The climate of the world is pretty temperate (deciduous forests cover much of the land). Flora and Fauna is similar to stuff that you would see in Washington St. And Idaho. Maybe some of the same stuff as Oregon too. Except for the fact that there are mainly deciduous trees, and only a few conifers here and there. There's also lots of fantasy stuff thrown in.

Thought this should go here.
