How do you handle skill checks?

This subforum is for discussion of the Iron Falcon Rules for Classic Fantasy Role-Playing. Maybe someday they'll have their own forum, but for now I'm keeping the discussion here.

When you say STR bonus the concept of ability bonuses is not outlined in IF, is it? Are you borrowing from later editions?

Whoops, mixed this up with a different thread. Sorry about that.

I'd use the Open Doors roll in IF; if both succeed or both fail, repeat next round.

That's what I'd do. Just made that up on the spot.
You can use attack or damage bonus, just make your choice consistent.

Other ways:
Ability +1d6. This means that with some difference in score one character will not be able to beat the other, you can change it by letting the d6 explode

It really depends on which mechanics you like the and how much complexity you want to add.

Exploding die rolls are very non-Gygaxian...

How would Gygax handle these situations? That’s an intriguing question!

Make something up on the spur of the moment that sounded good, and then if the situation kept coming up, make up something better and write it down.

And there is always the "Is this reasonable?" option. If it is, it happens.

When I have no clue, I roll a 1d6. 1-3 is in the players favor, 4-6 ain't. Angry Monk was kind enough to send me a d6 with two yeses, two no's, and a yes-but and no-but.
