Maju decides that it will be best to just leave with Teruk and his men. So Maju leads them to the front entrance (Number 1) and out of the temple back toward the village. He will help ambulate the wounded as best he can.

"Let's light it up. I have oil. Who has a torch?"

Room 3 is lit, with some lamps on the walls. That's how Jaali can see in there. It doesn't look like room 4 is lit, or the unnumbered room beyond room 3. (Let's call it 3a).

Or did you mean,to light the scorpion on fire?

Altair flaps dutifully out of the sunken garden and away to the north, along the ridge. He could be gone awhile.

Saracen walks down the stairs after Jaali, as does the monk and the cleric. When they get to the bottom, the scorpion in room 3 becomes aware of them, and rushes over to attack them. What do they do? (Note - there is an open bronze door right here.)

Teruk and his men never actually crossed the sunken garden into room 9, so Maju does not actually have to lead them back through it. He walks back across to meet them at the garden side of the tunnel between 1 and 2, and finally, the scorpion on the north wall of the garden begins to move - straight towards him.

I'm assuming he runs. He makes it back to the entrance to the tunnel. But the scorpion is right behind him. And it is faster than Maju and the natives, so it will catch you.

Maju, you are at the northern mouth of the tunnel between 2 and 1, the natives are all in front of you, and the scorpion is right behind you. What do you do? You don't know if you have initiative or not.

Yeah, I meant light up the scorpion. Yuan-Cheng will throw his flask of oil onto the scorpion then pull out his sword.

OOC: Just to be clear, the following is predicated on the assumption that the scorpion and Maju are not engaged in melee, and that Teruk, his family, and his men are on the outside.

Maju curses himself for being so useless. He steps into the tunnel, retrieves his scroll and casts Hallucinatory Terrain. Waving his hand in the manner his former master taught him, he attempts to 'close' the mouth of the tunnel, such that it appears to be a rock face from the other side.

First. Teruk and his men are in the tunnel, right in front of you, just to the south of you. They are not outside the tunnel. .

Second - the scorpion is about 10' behind you and closing. If you get the scroll out, it will definitely attack you before you get the spell away. It might also have beaten you for initiative, in which case it will attack you before you get to act, no matter what you do.

Please feel free to redo your intended action if that changes things.

Kanya will check her current spell choices, realize she hasn't been doing a good job of bookkeeping, then fire her pistol at the scorpion before it gets into melee range.

Jaali, wearing the sorcerer's magic belt will concentrate and try to make the scorpion stop moving.

OOC: Well crud.

Trying to think quickly, Maju decides to simply use the tools in his hands…he turns, and while yelling as loudly as he can levels a pistol at the beast, and fires as best he can. If anything, he might be able to just scare the thing off.

OOC: Here's hoping for favorable rolls.

OK, Maju first.

Maju wins initiative and turns to shoot the approaching scorpo. Bang! It's a miss!

The scorpion attacks him with both claws and hits twice. That does Maju a miraculously low total of 5 hit points (on 2d10). Maju is now being held in the air with the scorpion's stinger held over him! Oh noes!

Teruk and his 5 men try to save the charismatic magic user. Teruk charges, and lands a blow doing only 6 hit points. Another man also lands a blow and does 3 hit points. The scorpion still has 5 hit points remaining! The other men, who cannot close in melee, all throw their spears, and they all miss, due to either bad aim or the penalty for firing into melee.

Now the other group.

Saracen fires his rifle at the other scorpion and hits, finally. He does 12 hit points of damage. Kanya also fires, and also does the maximum damage (8). The scorpion dies at once.

The monk lobs some oil on the scorpion while the shots are being fired, which does not catch fire as no one has yet thrown a torch. The thief is still in gaseous form. His attempt to use the withdoctor's belt may have been successful but it's hard to tell because the creature got shot to pieces about two seconds after he started trying.

The shots were very loud down here and you are all a bit deafened.

You already know there is someone hiding in the room to the east, down the thin corridors. You also just heard gun fire and shouting from the sunken garden behind you, up the stairs.

In the new round,

The remaining scorpion loses initiative, and Teruk and the other man in melee bash it to pieces before it can kill Maju with its poison stinger.

Combat over. Your actions please.

Yuan-Cheng yells down "Come out and we'll negotiate." He then sheathes his sword, grabs a torch off the wall, and goes down the stairs.
