Re: [IC] Autumnpeak (Stone Smash and Archery Range)

Post by SerGavin »

Gerred, Idling fiddling with the end of his beard, walked briskly towards the festival and sounds of merriment. Counting his meagre savings and looking forwards to what awaited him this year. He had always enjoyed the festival and this time, after much persuasion from his uncle and family, had worked up enough courage to compete in the duelling circle like his uncle had when he was a lad.

Slowly Gerred strolled in between booths and people, drinking in the sights and sounds that presented themselves, the laughter and music. making his way to the duelling circle he puts down a crown and asks to be put on the combatants list. this done Gerred then made a beeline for the stone smash. his strength, as a smiths apprentice, had always be his most defining attribute and he hoped to win some gold to take home as proof he had achieved something. he puts down 3gp to try his luck and test his mettle.

once this is done Gerred will then head to the archery range and spend his remaining 1gp on trying to hit the target although never a particularly skilled archer he might as well try his luck..

Iloparin reaches out to collect his winnings, and is starting to put another coin down when he pauses looking at the halfling. Shaking his head he withdraws his hand saying "No thank you fine lady, I feel like I'm pressing my luck. I'd like very much to try some of other fun games that have been set up for us to play. I might return and see if I can take some more of your coin." He tilts his head and giggles, before waving at the halfling.

Leaving the booth he slowly wanders around the festival grounds, checking to see if there is anything else that he could do that would be fun. He slows near the "Ring ah Toss" and gets in line. The focus and concentration needed for this type of game is exactly what he was looking for.

The line slowly moves and finally Iloparin finds himself at the front. He hands a gp to the man running the game, and grabs the 5 rings. He grins at the man saying "Well sir, here goes nothing." Iloparin turns studying the layout of the posts on the game board and picks a likely looking place to throw the ring. Slowly, focusing deeply, he spins one then another then another at the posts. He takes quick stock of the results (range attack roll 1d20+1= 5, 7, 7, 2, 10) and is aghast to see that he wildly missed every single throw.

He blushes deeply and moves quickly away from the booth as Tomar pats him gently on the back. "Better luck next time my son, better luck." Trying to hide his embarrassment Iloparin heads over to the stage to watch some of the talent show.

Walking through the faire is a wonderful mixture of sight and sounds of people laughing, wares being hawked, booths extolling their games, and various rolling carts carrying anything from water to cool ale and there was even one enterprising young man who set up a pushcart with a rotating spit over hot coals on it and had meat chunks cooking on it. A stick of 4 chunks would cost a silver pence.

Gerred reaches the dueling circle finally and stands in a long line of burly men, slender young men, and boys that are eager to sign up. Leaning slightly out of the line, Gerred spots a young woman leaving the table after chatting with one of the men running the register table. After the slow moving line let's him reach the table and he pays his fee, his name is marked down on the list and he is told that his match will probably be towards the evening today.

Once done with that, the sounds of hammer blows on stone catches his attention and walks over to the Stone Smash area in time to see a large muscled man slam the hammer down on the stack of stones and shatter 2 of them. With a shack of his head and grin of humor the man walks away while his buddies tease him. With no one else stepping up, the tall hefty man with a leather apron and work gloves on starts calling out the game. Gerred steps up almost before the words are out of the man's mouth to hold out his coins. With a chuckle, the man only takes 1 crown (gp) “Tis one crown per try. Give it a whack after t'e stones 're placed and if ya wan'a another whack hand another crown over. We can let ya 'ave three whacks t'en 'ave ta let others play”.

After the Stone Smash, Gerred heads off to the archery range just in time to spot the young woman from the dueling circle line win a bow. He notices that it is approaching midday and the heat of the day is increasing as are the lines.

The halfling woman that Iloparin heard was called Tess pouts as he collects his winnings and starts to leave “Are you sure you don't want to try again? You have an eye of an eagle and a sharp mind to boot” but watches him start to walk away but smiles as he comments about returning another time. As the crowd swallows him up, Iloparin hears her hawking her game start.

Spotting a familiar face running a ring tossing booth brings a grin to Iloparin's face but within a few minutes that smile is turned upside down. In between tosses, Tomar asks Iloparin about Staquim  and his health. These questions causes Iloparin to lose focus and get disturbed enough to miss every toss. Tomar realizes the pain he cause and apologizes the with a hand patting him on the back, Tomar tells him that he hopes he has better luck another time.

Wandering through the faire Iloparin ends up near the Show of talent where he watches the beginning of an act. This young man is juggling 3 balls while reciting a poem and the judges watch on. Two of the judges appear to be local while the third judge has the dress of an outsider. In fact the third judge has a badge of master bard from one of the kingdoms across the sea on his jacket. When the boy misspoke a rhyme, his concentration faltered which caused him to drop the balls. Without missing a beat, the bard was up on the stage, smiling at the boy as he helped collected the props then telling the boy that he did good but maybe next year would be his big chance before the bard returned to his chair.

A few more acts went on before Iloparin stomach went agrowling.

Iloparin, embarrassed by the sound of his belly, turns and walks away smiling after watching the juggling man. It's amazing to him how many different kind of talents there are. He figures he might be able to juggle if given the time to practice but he knows his magic is a much better skill.

The smell of all the wonderful food is almost too much and he stops at a likely looking booth. The smell of chicken roasting makes his mouth water and he orders some smoked hen with pickle relish salad and a small wine to drink. The smell causes his stomach to rumble again and he quickly, yet politely, begins to eat. The wonderful scent and taste of this food makes him moan softly with pleasure.

Finishing his meal, Iloparin just sits, turning and watching the crowd go by. He nods his head or waves slowly at any people walking by that he recognizes. He is suddenly surprised by the number of faces that he doesn't know, and chalks it up to new people in town for the festival. He also realizes that his time in the tower has caused him to lead a sheltered life and he frowns thinking about things he might have missed out on. This frown deepens when he notices a particularly attractive girl bounce by. The blond hair on her head bouncing as she smiles and laughs with her friends.

Dismayed after the first smash, Gerred desides to come back later. He heads over to the archery range weaving through the throngs of people. Once at the stand he queues up patiently and when he gets to the front gives the man at the stall a crown. He aims, very carefully drawing back his bowstring aiming at the bullseye and fires...

Re: [IC] Autumnpeak (Midday summary)

Post by Metroknight »

As the day wore on till midday the following has happened.

Iloparin spent the day wandering the faire, playing a games of chance, being entertained by the talent show, and enjoying the cuisine of the festival.

Tanya spent the whole day enjoying the faire and visiting various people she knew. The highlight of the day was her winning the gold and bow but the weight of the day crashed on her as she had to rush off to work for a few hours during the midday meal.

Gerred slowly walked through the faire in a manner that speaks of his determination. After signing up for the combat trails and losing face on a game of strength that he thought was a sure thing, he wanders over to the archery range where as he expected he missed the targets with all the arrows. In fact one shot was so bad, the arrow went over the town wall that sits behind the archery target and disappeared from sight. McGee arches an eyebrow as the arrow sailed over the wall and looked at the dwarf "I guess bow and arrows are not your thing. Don't worry about the arrow since it is just a target arrow." with a slight chuckle.

Enddom hangs the "Closed" sign back on the door, and they walk back to the festival, talking about what they'll do next.

"I have my duel still, and I want to do more archery, and I'd like to try diving for an iron ball, and dancing around the maypole, and look at Marigold's latest creations, and..." Tanya rattles off as they walk past other groups heading the same direction. She sees a half-elf looking companionless and thinks to include him into the party's merriment, but he disappears into the crowd.

The tavern keeper sounds less excited. "Yes, back to listening to caterwauling kids with aspirations to be bards. And when that's done, back to the inn where I can hear the kids regale their heroic acts of apple bobbing and rock smashing. Maybe I'll be lucky this time and the barmaids will show up when we open."

Tanya ignores it, knowing he's going to be grumpy about all the work until the festival is over, and once the festival ends, then grumpy about the lack of coin being spent at the inn. Once they're back to the festival, Tanya gives Bethel a big hug and fakes Enddom into a peck on the cheek, and she's off into the crowd as well.

First up, the duel! She'll ask for two of the padded short swords, one for each hand, and start warming up until her bout. Maybe her challenger won't even know she's left-handed!
Freya HP 24/24 AC 16 (17 two weapons)
Kilian HP 20/20 AC 19 (18 no shield)
Talin HP 29 AC 16
Tiana HP 11 AC 12 SP 8/8
Fido HP 9/9 AC 16
Anna HP 12/12 AC 15 (19 defensively)
Bruce HP 20/20 AC 16 (15 no shield)

After Tanya warms up and watches a match between two local farm boys, she steps into the ring only to realize she is facing this hulking shape of a man child "Ludlem" whom many of the townpeople call the lumbering ox. While he is not very quick, in mind or foot, he makes up for it in strength and size.

Iloparin, having finished his mid-day meal slowly makes the rounds of the festival smiling and enjoying the freedom this day has brought. The sound of the dueling circle can be heard, as people cheer on their favorites during the early round matches. Weaving his way through the crowd around the make shift arena, Iloparin soon finds a place where he can see.

He just finds his place, as the pretty blonde girl from earlier makes her way into the circle. With her two padded swords spinning in her hands, he can't help but be impressed with her grace of movement. He thinks how satisfying it would be to step into the ring and be the festival champion. But, alas he has no skill for the martial or fighting arts.

Iloparin gasps audibly when he sees the young girl's opponent, and can't imagine having to face such a monster. The man might be the largest person Iloparin has ever seen, but he smiles to himself as the girl merely stands there watching while her opponent readies himself. He laughs since most of the crowd feels this match will be a forgone conclusion and that the huge man will easily win. Looking into the girls eyes however, Iloparin sees a fierce determination and suddenly turns to a man taking bets for the match.

The "action" on this match isn't much, but Iloparin shouts out loudly to the man, loud enough so he can be heard by most, "I've got 2 crowns on the lady please." Many standing near him laugh and snicker, and one man even mumbles under his breath saying "must be nice to have the coin to waste like that."
