[OOC: rolled 2 extra hp]

Hakki is not in a hurry to fight and a bit curious about his opponent.
He'll try talking first:
"What about you?
Did you piss off the bosses and now you get a taste of your own medicine?
I can't say I pity you..."

The gnome doesn't respond, and squares up to you, but he looks pretty beaten.

During the revolution back home (in which you may or may not have been involved), you recall hearing about a renegade group of dwarves and gnomes who were living below the Capital City and were organizing a resistance to the Empire, and the arenas especially.

It occurs to you that this gnome might be part of that movement. Otherwise he might just be a thief or a traitor, as you supposed initially.

Roll for init. Do you attack him? He is not attacking you, so far, just standing on his guard. There's about eighty people watching, many of them calling for you to bash him.

"Don't like to talk?
No matter - I only need two more victories and they let me go..."

Hakki closes with his opponent and tries to grapple him (initiative 5).
If the arena people hand him an easy opponent, he is not going to argue.
And if there is some perverse twist to this battle like with the previous ones, he'll find out soon enough.

"Let you GO? Is that what they told you! Hah! You idiot"

The gnome sneers. He beats you for initiative, and aims a a swift kick at your nads. He hits you and does you 2 hit points damage!

Not so beaten after all, perhaps.

You can roll to grapple him now.

"Ouch!"

Hakki tries to pin his opponent's arms to his body but is slowed by the pain (grapple roll 3).

He mutters through gritted teeth:
"There's only one way to find out if they lied..."

OOC: I posted a test roll but let it stand. Initiative 5 again for next turn.

Whoops. The little gnome rolls a 7 for initiative and kicks at you again. He rolls a 13! That's a hit. The damage is only one point. Lucky you got those two extra ones.

Your go.

(I don't follow what you mean by having posted a test roll. Has it affected the outcome?)

OOC: I posted a test roll for the "grapple attack" macro I had defined. It is not in the die roll log.

Frustrated that the seemingly "easy" opponent puts up such a struggle, Hakki stops talking and tries to punch the impertinent gnome in the nose (19 + 1 = 20 to hit, 1 point of damage).

OOC: and initiative 5 for the next turn, where Hakki will punch again if he goes first.

goddamn it! The gnome beats you again for initiative and then kicks you hard. He does you two hit points!
I believe you are down and he was won. There are boos from the crowd and the guards groan in disappointment, like children who have been told they cannot have an ice-cream.

"Ask yourself, have you ever actually met an ex-gladiator?" says the gnome bitterly, as he stands over your fallen body.

It's all non-lethal damage so you do not have to make a save to avoid dying. But it is very embarrassing.

You get 250 exp but you lose a reputation point! This can take you down to minus one.

Your next fight will be posted soon.
