Season 1 - Episode 4: The Goblin Caves
“Right, well if you’re off to check out those goblin caves, I’m going to find the poor wolves you murdered this morning and make sure that they’re properly honoured in death. Barnaby will look after you.”
And with these words the old man departs once more into the woods.
Barnaby is lying down outside the cave watching you, his head resting on his front paws. As soon as it’s apparent that you’re ready to leave, the bear pushes himself upright and ambles off into the forest, heading east. In general, Barnaby doesn’t let you get any closer than about ten yards; any attempt to do so simply results in him speeding-up. Paladin’s bear-riding fantasies will have to wait for another day.
After about an hour and a half of walking, Barnaby suddenly halts. He turns his head back towards you, growls and then turns forward again, as if pointing to something in front of him. About twenty yards ahead of the bear you can see what looks like the prone figures of a goblin and a huge wolf. Both are lying awkwardly on the forest floor, the goblin at least partially trapped beneath the wolf. Both are completely still - they would appear to be dead, or at least unconscious.

Re: Chapter 1 - The Farmer's Lost a Wife
Paadin futilely chases after Barnaby. Saddened by his inability to ride the bear, he silks and picks up some rocks as he hikes along, eyeing the lumbering ursine form.
When he sees the down wolf and goblin, he darts into the underbrush and uses his Halfling guile to sneak unseen up to the two bodies.

Re: Chapter 1 - The Farmer's Lost a Wife
Hiker readies his bow and hopes when it comes to it again his aim will be just a bit better this time around.
Re: Chapter 1 - The Farmer's Lost a Wife
Nivek readies his shield and gets a war hammer out for a quick throw if necessary. "Be ready boys," Nivek whispers.
Is it really the end, not some crazy dream?

"Could be an ambush. Ready your weapons!"
Drawing his sword with a quiet hiss of steel, Tannen grips his shield tightly and looks off to the sides and overhead for any signs of movement.
[Assuming there is no indication of either:]
Tannen, from a distance, looks more carefully at the body of the wolf and goblin. Are there any obvious wounds? Do they draw breath? Is/are there dropped weapon(s) nearby?

Bodies
Paladin stalks steathily through the surrounding trees and bushes [rolls] until he is close enough to get a good view of the goblin and the dire wolf. Up close, it’s clear that both are dead; the wolf has taken several crossbow bolts to its forequarters, whilst the goblin has a gaping wound that looks as if it was inflicted by a shortsword or similar. The forest floor is quite disturbed in the vicinity of the bodies as if there has been some sort of skirmish here recently.
[Rolls]
Paladin also notices that it appears as if a small group either approached or left the scene from the east (i.e. roughly in the direction you are currently heading). There are also similar signs of recent passage to the north.
[Rolls]
Scanning around, Paladin can see no other signs of life in the immediate vicinity.

Re: Chapter 1 - The Farmer's Lost a Wife
Hiker stays just behind Nivek and Tannen with his bow at the ready should combat erupt. Then he notices something wandering the end of his nocked arrow...slowly, he begins examining the point of the arrow - "Well itn't that funny?" At the end of the arrow was a small caterpillar just meandering the tip of the arrowhead. Hiker, completely lost in this new discovery sits down and brings the tip of the arrow really close to his eyes, which cross in fascination. Then he gently takes the caterpillar off the end of the arrow and sets it gently onto the ground.
At this point he noticed that the others were at least 20 feet from where he was so he pulled up his breeches and ran to chase them down.
(ooc: Not much else I can do as Hiker is literally too dumb to initiate thoughtful action for the most part if I try and stay in character and...well, that )

Paladin will squiggle his way through the grasses in the clearing until he gets to the corpses and stealthily check the goblin for any equipment.

Karl looked around, confused. {There are others hunting goblins in these woods... crossbowmen}
He let the small one do his sneaking, and stood ready in defense.

Tannen, keeping his sword and shield firmly at the ready will approach the corpses. Once there, he'll try and ascertain how long they may have been there.
