Magical Item Compendium Art Submissions

Post by toddlyons »

It lives! Not only is the reborn MIC alive and kicking, it's going to be a BIG book. I like to see an art density of 3 pictures per 2 open pages and have scraped as much out of this section as I could find. I need your help.

If you see an item in the book and want to call "dibs" please do it in this thread.

For the black and white interior art:
Axes, boots, bows, brooches, necklaces, cloaks, crowns, girdles, hammers, belts, rings, rods, scythes, staves, tablets, tridents. I'll find a place for them. The Legendary Artifacts in particular is in need of art.

For the cover:
I would love to read pitches from artists here that have never had a cover before. Share you concept in here.

Attached is the current release. Download and have a peek.

I definitely would like to draw a couple. I'll look through the document and see what inspires me.

Hey, just a reminder, calls for artwork should either come from me or be approved by me before posting. This isn't my control issues or anything like that, but rather how I manage the time and attention of our artists. I don't want too many demands at once.

This can stand, as right now we have several active artists, but for the future we need to maintain some restraint. Remember that a "finished" book usually takes a few months at the minimum to reach print status; I prefer to request art late in the process when I know what the flow looks like.

I thought I had your permission based on the Facebook PM request I made on January 9, for art and cover. You replied, "Yeah, I'm good with that." Sorry if I misunderstood.

At 91 pages, I don't expect much further growth. I've added submissions from the thread and a further 200 entries are mine (from the holidays, and a separate document I had going), but I've now exhausted the list I was writing from. I might add a few more from inspiration, should anything strike me. Art submissions are actually one of those inspirations.

I don't want you to worry about flow issues until the book has most of the art already in it. I know I am technically just an editor this time, but this is how I did my second and third books: write, decorate, write, decorate, repeat and rearrange until satisfied.

The art IS one of the main tools to fix flow issues, and conversely one of the main causes of flow issues.

you could say art taketh, and art giveth the flow issues.
No matter where you go...there you are

Ack, sorry Todd. 9 days is too long... when you asked, I thought you were going to do it immediately. Then I forgot. My bad, carry on.

No problem. As with previous books, I will upload an art folder for the MIC to Dropbox (with the pieces subfoldered by artist) once the process seems mostly done.

It's a moving target, to be sure. By the end, I'll keep most art pieces next to certain items, but for now I'm content with keeping them nearby and in the correct sections.
