Re: Beginner's Essentials
I've uploaded Chi's Release 8 of this work. Please, before doing any revisions, download the version from the website, as I have made further changes.

Re: Beginner's Essentials
Im not sure if this has been noticed but COMBAT section / Attack and Defense states that successful hit is supposed to roll damage. Howto roll damage is missing in this guide. The sections go from Missiles That Miss to Subduing Damage.
Can this be added?
Thank you,
Matthew Ozor

Solo, I've put R9 in the Projects folder on Dropbox.
I've added the damage paraphraph/section, and I also replaced the Brawling one as I noticed the wording was different in Core R107. Also added Matt for a proofing credit, and updated the copyright dates on title and OGL pages.

Re: Beginner's Essentials
Hey under the thief's sneak attack on page 3 it says that the attack must be a surprise. I thought surprise wasn't needed. Maybe that's not the intent of wording but I figured it should still be pointed out.
Re: Beginner's Essentials
I think this supplement is using the word surprise in its dictionary meaning of "an unexpected or astonishing event, fact, or thing" rather than the game rule "surprise" that means you are surprised so badly that you are unable to take an action for one round. The sneak attack can only occur if your opponent is not aware of you behind them and thus unable to act against, or prepare for, your attack. But once attacked they are aware of you and can attack you that same round if they have not used their attack yet, unless they fail a surprise roll.
Re: Beginner's Essentials
Hello,
I am an absolute beginner to the Basic Fantasy RPG world and I will probably be wrong but I think the Classes box for the Elves is not very clear: "Any plus Fighter + Magic-User"
Does it mean "Any class" like the Humans? Or does it mean something like "Any class plus the Combination Class Fighter/Magic User?
In the first case it should just be "Any".
In the second case the Combination Class Thief/Magic User is missing.
Am I getting something wrong?

Re: Beginner's Essentials
Magic-User/Thief was added to the core in 3rd Edition; the Beginner's Essentials probably isn't up to date with 3E. "Any single class as well as Fighter/Magic-User and Magic-User/Thief" would be accurate.
