Re: Dog-Faced Kobolds
So I can't find where this happened exactly, but one Facebook poster mentioned that his wife called Gabe's critters "Barklings" and I like that.
Here's my plan: Both traditional Kobolds and Barklings will appear with separate monster entries. Both types are well aware that other humanoids think they are related, and it's a touchy subject; either group will become angry, if not outright enraged, if someone suggests a relationship. Whether there actually is such a relationship or not will not be given as canon; this is up to the individual GM.
Statistically, Barklings will be very similar to Kobolds. I'll remove the bite attack I gave the Kobolds but retain it for Barklings, and Kobolds will have better Darkvision (60' vs. 30' I think) but Barklings will have a superior sense of smell.
And as usual, the rules will not dictate who is ally and who is enemy. This is also up to the GM.

Re: Dog-Faced Kobolds
This is an awesome compromise. I think the dog-faced kobolds are wonderful in a way, but maybe others and myself felt they were not quite what we thought of as Kobolds. I'm glad they will still feature as an NPC encounter. One thought regarding Barklings: what should we do about Caneins?

Re: Dog-Faced Kobolds
Core r 107 page 99: "Kobolds are small, dog-faced reptilian humanoids."
FG V1 page 16: "Caneins are a race of dog-like humanoids..."
So, Kobolds and perhaps Barklings need to be part reptilian, and Caneins will be pure dog-humans?

How dare you accuse Barklings of being reptilian!

[Bows to the Barklings with apology]
I had no idea that Barklings and Caneines were a different breed.

Barklings are Caneins who still pee on the rug.
