I saw the movie

Post by AlMan »

My son took me to the movie last night. I liked it, but the owlbear in the movie looked very similar to our Northern Owlbear from BFRPG Field Guide Vol 2.

So you would recommend it? I'm on the fence. Don't want to give WOTC any money these days, but realize that the movie folks had nothing to do with the OGL cash grab.

Since Hasbro decided to sell the movie studio even before the movie came out, I don't know they really care too much on how much money it makes (though no-one seems to want the movie studio, so...)

I had heard that as well. I just don't want to be disappointed, like I have with SO many recent movies (pretty much everything from the Force Awakens onward, and maybe before).

Literally just came back from watching it with my Wife and Son.
We all play BFRPG together so there is a "gamer" view of the movie at home.

This is not a master-piece, don't expect Rashomon, its full of D&D expected silliness and tropes.
Many moments of :
"They showed as a... nice".
"That is a harebrained plan like only a group of players can come up with"
"We did something similar in..."
and so on

All together nice "medium" fun movie
Go see it and enjoy a night out ;-)

I run games for my daughter, Miss Nearly 9. She has watched the trailers with me and really wants me to take her to the movie. I think the rating is too high for her though and worry I would break her heart by seeing it myself.
I'm also on RPGG

Thanks for all the thoughts. Sounds like: "Not the train wreck that may have been expected."

Thanks for taking time to comment.

I won't be watching out of principle. Just don't believe in putting my hard earned money towards it.

That said, I will watch once it gets to a online service that I have access to. It does look mildly entertaining from the previews I have seen... though I think I would have preferred a bit more serious approach. At least I have not seen any blue lipstick wearing fighters.
Is it really the end, not some crazy dream?
