Last Time on Space Force:
"All hands, prepare for jump," called Steele over the ship's intercom. "Engine room, charge for a jump of 8.56 light years." He reached up and set the jump clock for 4 days, 2 hours, 48 minutes, then brought the ship around to the correct heading.

The whine of the reactor rose, becoming audible even in the bridge, and the lights dimmed as near maximum power was applied to the graviton accelerator. Soon the sound fell off and Lieutenant Scott reported, "Accelerator charged for 8.56 and ready to engage."

"Engaging," replied Steele. He lifted the cover over the large red button on the console and pushed it. There was the slightest feeling of movement, as if the ship had hit a gentle bump, and in the next moment a deep blue void appeared before the ship, its edges sparkling with warped and distorted starlight. Steele was ready, pushing the main drive lever forward gently.

Pegasus slipped into the wormhole, and darkness closed around the ship.
And now, the conclusion:

Amanda could see the blue-glowing digits of the jump clock from her position at the nav station; as she watched, a minute of their trip rolled out of sight. 4 days, 2 hours, 47 minutes to go.

Outside the canopy she saw complete and utter darkness... no stars, no light at all. It was as if the ship had been covered with a dark cloth.

"Well, we're off" remarks Julius.

(To Steele)

"Everything look good, Lieutenant?"

(Over the intercom, to Scott)

"How's it going back there, Lieutenant?"

The problem with doing something really stupid to impress people is that they may just be impressed by how stupid you really are.

Nice try, Hyway, but the kitchen's manual. You have about a month's worth of food frozen and/or dry in the hold, plus another month of field rations ready to choke down at a moment's notice. It's 1969... the only technology more advanced than normal for that time are the things specifically required to go to the stars, and even that is kind of rough-and-ready.

((yes, but what you don't know is that on his last leave period, Lando spent a week exploring in a little known satellite complex left by the aliens and he discovered a self-contained kitchen pod and a sealed bucket of wafers, which he then installed under the sink on the Pegasus.))

Chewing slowly on a slice of chocolate cake, Amanda wonders "is that it?" She asks Castle and Steele the same. "That's it? No sudden acceleration, no G-force, not even a flash of green light?"

After getting a bite to eat, Lando stretches out on his rack and begins to read a technical manual. Later he will get up and go to a section of wall at the foot of the bunks and pull out an exercise station. He begins a series of spin workouts then punched a speed ball. He does a set of pull ups, sit ups, leg presses, etc. Afterwards he'll clean up then return to his bunk and begin reading the manula once more.
