Re: Basic Fantasy RPG Core Rules 4th Edition
The chapter flow is intended to mimic the targeted original game, its meant for the GM, not the players.
There are a couple of supplements for those wanting to use the combined info.

Re: Basic Fantasy RPG Core Rules 4th Edition
that would be one HUGE table so much in it that it would be either VERY hard to use, or cause people's brains to spontaneously to explode. Plus the more complex a table is the more likely people are going to get the wrong information from it.
No matter where you go...there you are
Re: Basic Fantasy RPG Core Rules 4th Edition
It's really not that big at all, nor that complex. OSE manages to do it for a cleric through level 14 (for example) in half a page of A5 size (5.8"x8.3") while still being quite legible, including the spells.
I'm not saying all the info for all the races etc. Just the core stuff for the base class:
Level, HD, XP, AB, Saving Throws, and Spells per Spell level
I find it far more likely for people to make mistakes when addressing multiple tables in multiple places.

Re: Basic Fantasy RPG Core Rules 4th Edition
I understand that, but this suggestion wouldn't hurt the GM at all. And it would help the GM in the cases where the GM is helping the players (GM'ing for children, introducing new players, etc)
And I realize those supplements exist. I would rather have it in the the one core main book so I can get it in print and I don't have to remember to bring a handful of supplements every time I go to a game.
The two biggest arguments I can see against it is
1) It duplicates information (which can introduce errors and is redundant)
2) At this stage it could affect layout/flow

thats a 48 column table... with 20 rows... that counts as a huge table in my booksambutoki wrote: ↑Sat Mar 25, 2023 9:04 pmIt's really not that big at all, nor that complex. Re: Basic Fantasy RPG Core Rules 4th Edition
What the heck, Boggo? Where do you get 48 columns???
... it's not ALL CLASSES in ONE TABLE. It's each class in its own table. Level, XP, Hit Dice, 6 spell levels, AB, five saves; each table is thus 15 columns.
I have however decided I'm not going to do it. Here's the Cleric page. I don't like it.

You forgot to add the Cleric vs Undead columns!

48 columns .... absolutely not! That would be terrible. I'm not sure where you are getting that from (perhaps the Turning Undead tables)?Boggo wrote: ↑Sat Mar 25, 2023 9:35 pmthats a 48 column table... with 20 rows... that counts as a huge table in my booksambutoki wrote: ↑Sat Mar 25, 2023 9:04 pmIt's really not that big at all, nor that complex. I'm saying simply increase each class table by 6 columns - AB, and the 5 saving throw values. That's it.
So the Magic-User class table would have 15 columns rather than 9, and the Fighter class table would have 9 columns rather than 3.
I've meant to work this up myself, as one ought to for community projects like this, but my already bad health took worse turn these last few months. I'm only these last couple weeks started improving.
But for it to be worthwhile (for this project) it would have to be something Sol is willing to include.

Re: Basic Fantasy RPG Core Rules 4th Edition
There is no version of me in any universe who thinks adding those columns to the class table is a good idea.
If I did move that table, it would stay a separate table; Clerics would end up with a second page like Thieves have. But I'm not doing that.

Exactly. Well, thank you for considering it.Solomoriah wrote: ↑Sat Mar 25, 2023 10:34 pm What the heck, Boggo? Where do you get 48 columns???

I do like it, and like I said, I may end up doing it for myself.
